As with yesterday’s leak, this BlackBerry Messenger version 5.0.0.66 was also pulled out of the leaked Tour 9630 OS 5.0.0.591 and made available for download. I didn’t notice any major differences in yesterday’s BBM leak so if you find anything new in BBM 5.0.0.66 let me know!

Two of Google’s popular BlackBerry applications

Two of Google’s popular BlackBerry applications have received minor updates today. Google Voice is now at version 0.1.7 and the Google Mobile App is at version 3.6.1.1. There doesn’t seem to be any noticeable differences and the Google Mobile Blog hasn’t mentioned them so this update probably includes some bug fixes and other optimizations.

To download Google Voice or Google Mobile App point your BlackBerry Browser to m.google.com. Once there you can go through Google’s mobile apps, download these and others for free.

Sidenote: For some reason the Gmail app says version 2.0.6 but I have 2.0.7. Hmm…

BlackBerry Messenger was just updated to version 5.0.0.55 and it looks like RIM has updated it yet again less than a few days later. Version 5.0.0.56 is now available for download and so far the only obvious difference the return of Spell Check, which many of you mentioned was gone in version 5.0.0.55.

Well, that didn't take long. Just the other day BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.0.52 was leaked to the interwebs and now we have .53 floating around and most importantly .54 is now up for OTA download. Word of caution of course it's NOT official by any means so if you decide to download make sure you at least make a back up first. Also note, only 4.7 + and higher plus the servers are likely being crushed with requests so if you are not able to download it the first time, look in the comments for a mirror of the file or just sit tight till the rush passes. What Palm started as an offensive against Apple has backfired and Palm has turned from playing the victim to be called the culprit in just over a month. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 has popped up on the T-Mobile Germany (translated) site and is being shown as coming in November.

So much is happening this week with all the unreleased devices (although the Storm2 is now official). Yesterday BlackBerry Operating Systems were leaked for the Bold 9700 and Storm2, the complete Bold 9700 User Guide was leaked, and now T-Mobile Germany has it up with features and accessories.

T-Mobile USA is already sending out invites for a launch party on November 5th, so maybe the November 11th launch date holds true? We’ll find out soon enough

Unlike the Storm where is seemed like we had to wait forever for new OS leaks to show upafter the device was released, Berry Review landed links to some leaked OS' before the device release. Facebook Version 1.6.0.22 Launches Bringing OS 5.0 Compatibility!

One of the major concerns with running a leaked version of OS 5.0 has been the fact most RIM designed applications were not yet compatible with OS 5.0. Facebook is of course one such application that until earlier tonight was among the non working applications, but RIM has rather quietly updated Facebook to version 1.6.0.22 which does indeed make it compatible at this time. So if you have been running any of the leaked version 5.0 operating systems and been missing Facebook you can grab the updated version and be back in business.

Those of you that are running the leaked versions of OS 5.0 know that instant messaging applications aren’t working properly yet (or at all). My buddy @0mie was able to get his hands on leaked versions of BlackBerry instant messaging applications that should work with devices running OS 5.0

Also keep in mind that since these are leaked versions, you should make a backup and install these appsat your own risk and only if you are comfortable with using beta software.

Create-A-JAD: Free Desktop App To Easily Create OTA And Desktop Installers For BlackBerry

Lyricidal (aka @theiexplorers) has just released a cool, free desktop app called Create-A-JAD that allows you to create your own OTA (.jad) or desktop (.alx) installer files for BlackBerry apps. In order to make these OTA or desktop installer files you need to have the COD files of the chosen app handy.

Here’s how it works:

Instructions
- 1) Enter information requested (All are required except for description)
- 2) Drag and drop all the files needed for your app install into the white box under Files.
- 3) If you haven’t already, enter the filename (no extension) and choose what type of install you need: .JAD is for OTA, .ALX is for Desktop Install, and Both does both of them.
- 4) Click Create It!
- 5) Enjoy your new OTA/Desktop Install!
Get Your OTA Up and Running
- 1) Upload all .cods required, the .jad, and the .htaccess file created to your webspace
- 2) Go to the link to your .jad file from your phone
- 3) Install away!
To Use In Desktop Install
- 1) Copy and paste the created .alx file in your OS’s folder (ie. 9530-v4.7.0.167_P4.0.0.205)
- 2) Copy and paste the .cod files into the Java folder (if you checked that box when creating the .alx) or into the same OS folder as step 1 (if you left the checkbox unchecked)
- 3) Install using AppLoader (Loader.exe) or Desktop Manager

Here it is ladies and gentlemen!! We teased you for a few days and you know us, we can't be mean and show you something and NOT give it to you. It's not fair that only a few of us can use our cameras and video cameras and really enjoy the Storm at its best!! So here it is, 5.0.0.230 for you guys, first at BackberryOS.com!! BUT before you download you need to read the rest of this. Since lately we have been leaking their most recent builds, they have removed the .EXE file, thinking this will stop us. Well, they should have realized that we have BBCrackman working with us and he was able to make an installer for us. There is a different way of installing this so you really should read how to do this.

First Official Image Of The T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9700 (Onyx)

My buddy Al Sacco (aka @ASacco) scored the first official image of the BlackBerry Bold 9700 (aka the Onyx), which has been confirmed as launching before the end of 2009!

Apparently this image was sent to him by T-Mobile USA PR before he agreed to any embargo, so he decided to share it with all us BlackBerry addicts. Here’s a tidbit from the message sent to Al by T-Mobile:

“The BlackBerry ‘Onyx’ sports a premium experience and design with a high-gloss black finish and leather grain detail on the back. Boasting features such as high-speed 3G Web browsing, Wi-Fi calling, visual voicemail and support for corporate and personal e-mail options, the ‘Onyx’ will satisfy all your on-the-go needs. Also the phone comes preloaded with mobile applications from BlackBerry App World, including Amazon MP3 store for quick and easy music downloads and TeleNav GPS Navigator for turn-by-turn directions.”

In addition, T-Mobile plans on releasing a white Curve 8520 next month. Not sure how many are excited about a white 8520, but I know plenty of people who are excited about the Onyx (including myself). Anyone else hear anything about any upcoming BlackBerry devices?

Facebook v1.7 For BlackBerry Coming Soon?

Rumors of a new Facebook BlackBerry application have surfaced, so far said to be available some time in September.

Facebook version 1.7 will include the following changes:

Faster page loading
Ability to filter the news feed (Status updates, photos, links, etc.)
A new view profile option

Not a lot of info but I’m sure we’ll either hear more about it or see an actual release since it’s aready September.

It seems like a few good things are rumored to launch in September. The Onyx, BIS 2.8, and now Facebook 1.7. Maybe OS 5.0?

ÜberTwitter Currently The Most Popular BlackBerry Twitter App

There are now a few good BlackBerry Twitter applications available for many devices, but the every day user wouldn’t really know which is more popular according to the percentage of users.

That’s why there are sites like TwitStat, which monitors Twitter client usage for all accounts follow by @twitstat.

I’ve gone ahead and pulled the top BlackBerry apps listed on the TwitStat page. Here they are by rank with links to their pages:

These stats would be accurate if it wasn’t for the fact that SocialScope is in closed beta. Since ÜberTwitter is in open beta, more people are able to download and use it. Also, like Adam from Mashable said, ÜberTwitter has gotten some celebrity exposure to help increase its user base.

So now you have to wonder…if SocialScope was open invite instead of closed invite, would it be the top BlackBerry Twitter app? I’ve been using the new SocialScope for a while now and I have to say, it is definitely the top app for me. Since I’ve played with all the apps listed above, I can’t be too biased right?

Serious Twitter Outage & Facebook Also Failing

If you’ve been wondering why your BlackBerry Twitter or Facebook applications aren’t working well today, it’s because a virtual apocalypse is in currently progress! Just kidding, but they are experiencing some problems.

Twitter as of right now is fully down with this update from their status blog:

Facebook is also having some intermittent issues but seems to be working for the most part. Until these problems are sorted out TechCrunch has a great list of alternative things to do.

BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 Hidden Country Flags

If you are amongst the swarms of people who have downloaded the leaked versions of BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 then you will surely have noticed the Canadian and American flag that now show up as "smileys". But curiously other country flags are missing and after I had installed BBM 5.0 I began to wonder why such a worldly device would leave a lot out. I just chalked it up as maybe it's a localized thing and more will show up later on as official releases get pushed out.

Then, while checking on Twitter last night I was forwarded a message from @PatWallace by@phishgirl3 that shows how to access different country flags within BBM 5.0. Technically, the smileys are just letters and numbers and @PatWallace found by using different letters you can find different flags.

Leaked: OS 5.0.0.140 For BlackBerry Storm 9530

Update: Once you install the OS onto your PC, go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall RIM Internal Apps 5.0. If you leave this installed on your PC, when you update your device Qunicy will get loaded up too (RIM's beta tracking program). Also, if the download link goes down, just be sure to surf through the forums to find a mirror. *

The Storm forums are blowing up on this one. It looks like a Chinese site has posted OS 5.0.0.140 for the BlackBerry Storm 9530. This is a recent development so we don't have many details, but if you're willing to give it a shot, let us know the results. Keep in mind that because OS 5.0 is not official yet, a lot of your existing apps may not work on 5.0 even with a successful operating system upgrade. Visit the the Storm OS forums for more info. If you are asked for a password when extracting the file, use "raysource".

Bahkan desainnya pun sekilas amat mirip dengan ketebalan bodi yang sama, walaupun menurut saya sedikit lebih keren dibanding E71 terdahulu.

Tapi di luar kesamaan tersebut, E72 telah mengemas banyak peningkatan fitur. Kameranya sekarang memiliki resolusi 5 megapixel, koneksi data jauh lebih cepat dengan HSDPA yang lebih cepat (sampai 10 Mbps) dan teknologi HSUPA (sampai 2 Mbps) yang mempercepat upload – atau dalam bahasa Indonesia pengunggahan. Fungsi GPS sekarang juga telah memuat kompas digital.

Untuk mempermudah menjelajah email dan fitur lainnya, Nokia memasukkan Navi key optical yang baru. Karena kebetulan belum “memainkannya”, maka saya tidak bisa berkomentar banyak mengenai fitur ini. Oh ya, buat yang berminat, harganya dipatok di kisaran 350 EURO (sekitar Rp 5 juta). Mahal atau murah, tergantung Bro & Sis (dan dana di dompet).

Ponsel Transparan, Fitur Jempolan

LG nampaknya sedang rajin-rajinnya membuat terobosan baru di bidang teknologi ponsel. Usai menggebrak pasar dengan ponsel musik pertama dengan benaman sistem tata suara Dolby dan speaker plus woofer, kini LG berniat menghadirkan ponsel dengan keypad transparan yang juga pertama di dunia untuk dipasarkan di tanah air.

Inovasi keypad transparan ini memang terbilang unik. Pertama kali kami pikir tidak ada keistimewaan lain, selain keypadnya tembus pandang. Fungsinya sama seperti keypad pada umumnya. Namun ternyata tidak, keypad transparan ini bukan sembarang keypad. Tetapi lebih mirip sebuah touchpad pada laptop yang bisa digunakan untuk menavigasi ponsel. Lebih dari itu, dengan keypad ini kita bisa melakukan handwriting recognition tanpa perlu menghalangi pandangan ke layar. Responsif terhadap gerakan multi touch untuk zoom in dan zoom out gambar.

Dalemannya Crystal juga tidak main-main. LG membenamkan fitur lengkap yang mumpuni di dalam ponsel berdesain slider ini. Dari support jaringan HSDPA sampai kamera 8 megapixel tersedia di Crystal. User interface ponsel sudah memakai user interface S-class, persis seperti yang ada pada LG Arena . Fungsi akselerometer dapat digunakan ketika kita membalikkan ponsel, dan secara otomatis layar berganti ke mode landscape.

Rencananya pihak LG akan mengeluarkan Crystal sekitar akhir bulan Juli ini atau awal Agustus. Namun demikian, bagi yang penasaran bentuk aslinya seperti apa, ponsel transparan ini sudah bisa dilihat pada ajang Pekan Raya Jakarta(PRJ) yang berlangsung sampai tanggal 12 Juli nanti.

BlackBerry tidak hanya bisa digunakan untuk berkomunikasi, tapi juga menyelamatkan nyawa. David Fitzherbert sedang bermain ski di Swiss saat jatuh ke jurang sedalam 200 meter. Ia selamat karena BlackBerry yang dikantunginya di saku depan tersangkut di antara bebatuan. Hebatnya, dua jam kemudian setelah diselamatkan, BlackBerry tersebut masih bisa digunakan.

“Salju tiba-tiba longsor dan saya sempat jatuh sekitar 20 meter, sebelum akhirnya tertahan oleh BlackBerry ini selama 2 jam.” David mengalami patah rahang, gigi, serta patah tulang dada dan patah hidung yang parah. Ia menghabiskan sepuluh hari di RS – sambil tetap menggunakan BlackBerry yang menyelamatkannya untuk menelpon istrinya. “BlackBerry ini masih bekerja normal sampai saat ini. Saya hampir-hampir tak percaya.”

Tapi tentunya BlackBerry yang sudah di install aplikasi Woomby di dalamnya. Aplikasi ini bisa dipasang dengan mode otomatis, dan dengan sendiri bisa men-detect suara tangis bayi. Kemudian Woomby akan memutar suara, video atau mengeluarkan cahaya dari BlackBerry yang bisa membuat si bayi tenang dan tidak menangis lagi.

Dua animasi suara yang akan dimainkan oleh aplikasi ini ada dua, suara mesin pemotong rumput dan rahim ibu. Aneh memang, tapi kalau kata ahli dua suara ini bisa membuat bayi nyaman dan tenang kembali. Ada juga dua lagu anak-anak sepanjang masa, Lullaby dan Twinkle-twinkle star. Sedang videonya The Wheel On The Bus dan Old MacDonald Had a Farm. Pertama kali mencobanya, agak ragu juga apakah aplikasi seperti ini benar-benar bisa menenangkan bayi. Amazingly it works well. Meski butuh waktu sebelum si bayi menghentikan tangisnya. Koneksi jaringan telpon, WiFi, maupun Bluetooth semua akan mati ketika menggunakan aplikasi ini. Jadi tidak perlu khawatir deh soal pengaruh radiasi ke bayi walaupun ada BB yang nempel didekatnya.

Nokia bekerja sama dengan AT&T, sebuah perusahaan layanan telepon dan internet di Amerika, telah menelurkan sebuah handphone yang mungkin tidak akan disadari bahwa Nokia yang mengeluarkannya jika tidak melihat logonya karena bentuknya cukup berbeda dari produk Nokia pada umumnya. DSW> Blackberry devices
Pastikan HANYA 3rd Party Application yang dipilih, kemudian NEXT.
Desktop Manager akan mem-backup seluruh 3rd Party Apps, setelah selesai, JANGAN pilih Next / Cancel.
Cari file dan folder di PC anda (pastikan cari hidden files and folder serta folder system dalam pencarian). Cari sebuah Folder yang namanya sama seperti PIN BB anda, dan sebuah file .alx
Pindahkan kedua file tersebut ke folder lain (cth. Desktop)
Kembali ke Desktop Manager dan Cancel proses backup tadi.
RESTORE Process
